How to Use the Grappling Hook in the "Quake 3" Demo
"Quake 3" is an online first-person shooter that drops you into a combat pit with players from around the globe. Your objective is to destroy the competition with whatever weapons you find. The grappling hook item is not actually found anywhere in the game, but is instead a small bit of leftover code that was never fully implemented. You cannot use this item in natural gameplay, but may be able to access it if the circumstances on your server are just right.

Start your copy of "Quake 3" and navigate to the multiplayer menu.

Browse through the list of available servers. You must find a server with the grappling hook enabled. This information will be present in the name of the server.

Join the server, and wait for the game to load.

Press the tilde key on your keyboard to open the developer console.

Enter the command "/give grappling hook" to add the item to your inventory. You can now bind it to one of your keys and use it on the multiplayer map.
