Whether you're creating a prehistoric Halloween costume or simply enjoy playing dinosaur dress-up, making a dinosaur head is an easy project. All you need is a plain baseball cap and a few craft supplies to turn the hat into a wearable dinosaur headpiece complete with eyes, a nose and a row of sharp teeth. Use pictures of dinosaurs as inspiration when creating the dinosaur head cap.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash and dry the hat according to the directions on its care tag. This will remove any dirt and debris and create a clean surface for you to create a dinosaur upon. Do not use fabric softeners when washing the cap, as this makes it harder for the fabric paint to adhere.

    • 2

Use a piece of chalk to outline the features of the dinosaur head you want to include on the hat. This should include at least one eye on either side of the cap, as well as two nostrils toward the front of the bill. Scales, eyebrows and ear holes are other features you can sketch on the hat. If you make a mistake, rub the chalk mark with your hand until it disappears.

    • 3

Choose a fabric paint pen in a color that will stand out on the cap. For example, if the hat is blue, choose a white or yellow color. Hold a fabric paint pen in your hand, like you would a pencil. Place the end of the pen along one of the marked chalk lines. Gently squeeze on the container to push the paint onto the hat. Continue squeezing as you trace along all of the marked chalk lines. Use different colors for various features, such as black outlines for the nostrils and blue paints for the eyes. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 4

Draw a series of upside-down triangles on a piece of sturdy paper, like poster board, or on a piece of felt. These will serve as teeth on the dinosaur head when attached around the brim of the hat. Make all the teeth the same size, or create varying shapes for a more jagged dinosaur tooth look. At the top edge of each triangle, draw a 1/2 inch rectangular tab, which will attach to the hat.

    • 5

Cut out all of the shapes, with the tabs attached to the triangles. Paint the fronts and backs of the teeth any color you choose with poster paints, or use fabric paint if you are using felt teeth. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 6

Pick up one tooth and bend the tab of the triangle backward about 90 degrees. Run a line of hot glue from a hot glue gun along the surface of the tab. Place the tab along the edge of the hat brim's underside. Hold it in place until the adhesive sticks and holds the tooth in place. Continue this process to attach all of the teeth around the underside of the hat's brim. Allow the glue to dry completely before wearing your dinosaur head hat.
