How to Bind a Pallet With String

How to Bind a Pallet With String thumbnail
Transform old pallets into new designs by learning to bind them together.

Reclaimed pallets are an ideal building material for many do-it-yourself projects from compost bins to shoe racks. Instead of nailing or screwing them together, bind the pallets together with string for a modular design that comes apart with ease. Use a strong and durable string such as nylon to bind pallets together since they are often heavy and rugged. A simple square knot, sometimes called a reef knot, is all that is necessary to bind the pallets together for your next project.

Instructions

    • 1

Fit the pallets together to form the desired structure for your project. Position, adjust and tighten squeeze clamps along the joints that you plan to bind together.

    • 2

Wrap the string tightly around each joint of the adjoining pallets several times. Trim off the string, leaving at least 6 inches in excess string with utility shears. Hold the two ends of the string tight with your fingers.

    • 3

Tie the two ends of the string in a square knot. Loop one end over and one end under and back around like you would to begin tying your shoes. Repeat the process again to double the knot to tie off each bound joint securely.

    • 4

Loosen and remove the squeeze clamps once all of the joints have been bound together with the nylon string.

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment with different ideas for reusing pallets. The possibilities are endless once you start working with them.
