How to Fix the Back of the Bookcase
Bookcases are typically built with an enclosed backing to prevent books from falling out of the case and to provide some protection from dust. The back of the bookcase may begin to separate from the sides of the case over time, especially if large books are pushed repeatedly toward the back of the case or the furniture is moved often. Additionally, if shelves begin to sag from the weight of books, the inward pull on the sides of the bookcase can cause the backing to pull loose. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

-
1
Remove all books from the bookcase. Arranging each shelf of books in its own stack on the floor helps keep them organized until you are ready to re-shelve them.
-
2
Lift the shelves out of the bookcase if you have adjustable, removable shelves.
-
-
3
Tip the bookcase forward gently until it rests horizontally on the floor with the back facing upward.
-
4
Press the back of the bookcase flat against the four edges of the bookcase. The backing may buckle outward over time and develop a curve.
-
5
Reattach the backing to the bookcase edges using brads or finishing nails and the hammer. Drive the nails or brads one at a time, working your way from one edge to the other to prevent gaps in the backing.
-
6
Raise the bookcase to its normal position to replace the shelves and books.
