How to Make a Bead Pin Brooch

How to Make a Bead Pin Brooch thumbnail
Safety pins can be used to create beautiful beaded brooches.

A beaded brooch pin is a basic craft project that takes just a few minutes to complete. You can create a beaded brooch from nearly any combination of beads imaginable designed in an unlimited number of patterns and designs. The finished brooch will be flat no matter what design you use, but by arranging colored beads together mixed in with white beads, or other contrasting color, you can create patterns and designs with the beads. Use beads of the same size for a uniform appearance, or mix the bead sizes and shapes for a different look. Embellish your brooch even more with other decorations, such as ribbons, buttons, or pendants.

Instructions

    • 1

Line up the beads necessary to make each design. Try mixing blue, white and red beads to make a United States flag, or positioning beads of two different colors to make a star shape in the center. Draw your own design, flags, familiar shapes or words by positioning beads into the desired design. Make a color-coded pattern for the design onto a piece of paper that lists the number of beads in order, to use as a reference.

    • 2

Open the small safety pins. Slide beads onto the pin in the desired arrangements.

    • 3

Close the pin. Pinch the head of the pin closed with pliers to prevent the beads from falling off.

    • 4

Slide the pins onto the larger pin through the hole in the head of each safety pin. You can also slide the pins onto the larger pin from the circle of metal at the base of each pin. Embellish the brooch further if you wish using ribbons or flowers, or simply wear your finished product as it is.
