How to Obtain a Text Log of an IM
Instant messaging programs allow you to communicate with your friends through text chat. If you wish to look at a conversation you had some time in the past, you can look at the recorded log of that conversation to see what was said. However, you can only view a chat log of a conversation if you have the "save chat logs" preference enabled in your options. The chat history will open up in the program "Notepad."

Open up the Yahoo Instant Messenger program.

Enter your email address and password, then click on the "Sign In" option.

Click on the "Contacts" tab at the top of the program.

Select "Message Archive/Conversation History."

Scroll through your list of saved chat logs to find the one you wish to view. Click on the text log to open it up.

Click on the "Start" button and select "Computer" from the start menu.

Select "My Documents" from the list of folder options on the left side of the window.

Double-click on the folder "My Received Files," then select "History."

Scroll through your list of logs to find the text log you would like to view.
