How to Make Shoestring Bows

How to Make Shoestring Bows thumbnail
"Cross-loop bow" is another name for a shoestring bow.

Many people learn to tie their shoes at an early age. Aside from using them for the primary purpose of tying shoes, you can also use shoestring bows in decorative designs. For example, tie ribbons into bows and use them for decorations or to make items such as birthday presents more aesthetically pleasing. When you tie a bow on something, use the same technique you do to tie your shoelaces.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the object around which you wish to tie the bow in the center of a ribbon, string or lace.

    • 2

Bring the two ends up. Cross them over and under each other to tie an overhand knot. Pull the knot tight.

    • 3

Form a loop in one end of the ribbon, and hold it in your left hand.

    • 4

Wrap the other end of the ribbon around the neck of the loop you made in Step 3. Form a loop in the other end of the ribbon. Pull the loop through the center of the knot. Pull on both loops to tighten the knot.
