When it comes time to upgrade your cell phone on AT&T, you can pick from both new and refurbished phones. Refurbished phones are phones that were returned by previous customers and have been restored to complete functionality. Many choose to upgrade to a refurbished phone because it is cheaper than upgrading to a new phone. If you have decided to upgrade to a refurbished phone on AT&T, you will find that doing so merely requires purchasing the refurbished phone online and then activating the phone.

Go to attwireless.com and click the "Login" link at the top right of the screen.

Select "Wireless" as the account type to sign into.

Type in your wireless number and password for your AT&T account. Click "Sign In."

Click "Check Upgrade Options" under the "Quick Links" options menu.

Check the box next to the phone you want to upgrade to and then click "Upgrade Selected Lines."

Look for phones that say "Refurb." Click "Add to Cart."

Follow the on-screen prompts to go through checkout to purchase the refurbished phone.

Activate your refurbished phone after it arrives by going to wireless.att.com/activations. Select "Upgrade phone," and then type in your wireless number. Select the verification method, then type in the verification number and click "Next" to begin the process of activating your phone. Go through the specific on screen steps for your particular phone to complete the process of upgrading to a refurbished phone on AT&T.
