How to Make Scarves Thinner
If you have several wide scarves that you are not wearing, then perhaps you need to make them thinner. You do not have to toss out wide scarves and spend extra money purchasing new ones. Instead, adjust the wide scarves that you already have so that they fit more easily around your neck.
Things You'll Need
- Cutting mat
- Yardstick
- Rotary cutter
- Fabric marker
- Scissors
- Iron-on seam tape
- Iron

1
Place a cutting mat on a flat table.
-
2
Place the wide scarf on the cutting mat, and place the yardstick on top of the scarf. You may want to trim off several inches or cut the scarf in half.
-
-
3
Roll the rotary cutter down the length of the scarf and against the yardstick to ensure a straight line. If the rotary cutter does not cut through the fabric, then draw a line down the length of the scarf with a fabric marker and cut along the line with a pair of scissors.
-
4
Place iron-on seam tape along the scarf's long, vertical border.
-
5
Fold the section of the scarf with the seam tape over onto the scarf. Press the iron on top and into the scarf, making sure to move the iron down the length of the scarf. If you press the iron too long on the scarf, the seam tape may lose its stickiness.
