You can disarm a modem within the Device Manager.

Lightspeed modems provide Internet connectivity to computers and are compatible with multiple operating systems. If you are using a different network device, you may find that the Lightspeed modem conflicts with the device and wish to disarm it. You also may just wish to disarm the device so that it does not consume unnecessary resources since it is not being used. Every component of your computer and external devices can be easily enabled or disabled in the Device Manager.

      Click the Start button and click "Control Panel" to open the Control Panel window.

      Click the heading for "System and Security," then choose "Device Manager" in the window that appears. The Device Manager window will open and display all of the internal and external devices of your computer.

      Click the "+" sign next to "Network Adapters" to expand the branch and reveal a list of the network adapters installed on your computer.

      Right-click the listing for your Lightspeed modem and choose "Disable." A confirmation box will warn you that the device will stop working. Click "Yes" to disable the device. The device will be disabled, but its drivers and software will remain installed.

      To re-enable the device at a later time, right-click its listing and choose "Enable."

Tips & Warnings

  • The Lightspeed modem cannot be used while it is disabled. You must enable the device in Device Manager in order to use it again.
