Instructions

    • 1

Straighten the paperclip until it is one, long piece. Bring the ends together, creating a loop or a teardrop shape. Twist the ends together to secure the loop. If you have thin dreads, a smaller paperclip will suffice.

    • 2

Locate a dread with new hair growth. New hair growth is located close to the scalp, and will be straight.

    • 3

Place the paperclip into the dread, close to the scalp, creating a hole. Push the paperclip through until there is enough loop on the other side to place the dread into. Continue to hold on to the twisted ends of the paperclip.

    • 4

Thread the dread through the top-side of the loop.

    • 5

Pull the paperclip by the twisted end, bringing the loop and the dread through the hole the paperclip created.

    • 6

Repeat until the dread is tight to the scalp. However, alternate between threading the dreadlock through the top-side and under-side of the loop. This will give your dreads a "Y" shape.
