Instructions

    • 1

Choose the fabric for the teddy bear. Knits, corduroy, terrycloth, velour, velvet, synthetic suede and even denim make excellent fabric for teddy bear bodies. Make sure to match the fabric to other accessories, including the buttons for the eyes.

    • 2

Cut out two circles of fabric to sew together to create the body. Also cut out two smaller circles for the head, and eight ovals for the arms and legs.

    • 3

Sew the circles and ovals together at the edges using thread in a color that matches the fabric. Make sure the seam is tight so that none of the stuffing will bulge through. Leave a small gap in the seams of the body, head, arms and legs before closing to allow for the cotton stuffing to be inserted.

    • 4

Stuff the body, head, arms and legs with cotton stuffing. Many other types of stuffing can also be used, but cotton stuffing produces the best results. Sew the edges shut to create a solid seam for all the body parts.

    • 5

Sew the head, arms and legs onto the body. Once the head is attached, sew two buttons to the head to create eyes for the teddy bear. Using black thread, stitch a mouth and a nose on the head to give the teddy bear a smiling face.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take time sewing the bear's nose, as it is one of the most obvious features. Use a model if necessary to help with the nose shaping and construction.
