How to Make a Scarf From Socks

How to Make a Scarf From Socks thumbnail
Transform a drawer full of colorful socks into vibrant winter scarves.

Make a scarf from different colored and patterned fabric socks and embellish the scarf with a creative toe sock fringe at the ends. Make the scarves from some old socks with worn out toes for an easy recycling project for a child or adult, or purchase a variety of silly patterned socks for a completely unique fashion accessory. Use fleece fabric socks for a warm wintertime scarf or use lightweight cotton socks to keep your neck warm during cooler autumn days.

Instructions

    • 1

Smooth out the regular fabric socks on your work surface. Cut the socks at the heals and discard the foot portion of the sock or use the fabric for another project.

    • 2

Cut off the top hem of each sock.

    • 3

Lay two of the cut socks side by side and hold them together with sewing pins. Lay another two socks side by side, join them with pins and slide the two sets together, end to end. Repeat this step to join the socks side by side and then end to end. Use about 20 socks.

    • 4

Sew the joined sections of socks together to make the main body of the scarf.

    • 5

Cut off the top hem from the four toe socks. Lay two of the socks side by side and pin the cut edge against the end of the scarf. Lay the other two socks side by side and pin the cut edge against the other end of the scarf. Sew the toe socks to the scarves to make decorative ends.
