Hidden emoticons are an Easter-Egg feature that Skype shares with many other instant messaging programs. The emoticons aren't displayed on the menu of available icons, so the user has to manually enter the code for them. When the code is entered, the person who typed them and the recipient will see the emoticon display. Finding Skype's hidden emoticons takes a little bit of trial and error, and some Internet searching as well.
