How to Braid Cornrow Style
Braiding is the process of interlacing sections of a flexible material to create an interwoven pattern. A cornrow is a type of braid that's woven very close to the head in thin, long sections. Having cornrows braided professionally can be costly, but you can create your own cornrows at home for a fraction of the price. Adjust the width of the braids to create a cornrow hairstyle that reflects your individuality and personal style. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Brush through the hair with the paddle brush to remove any knots or tangles.
-
2
Use the pointy end of the rat-tail comb to separate a thin section of hair from the top of the forehead right down to the nape of the neck. The width of the section should depend on your personal preferences, but a standard sized cornrow is 1/2 inch wide.
-
-
3
Clip back the hair on either side of the section with the hair clips. This will make the section easier to braid.
-
4
Separate a 1/2-inch section of hair at the top of the section of hair, just above the forehead. Divide this section into three equal sections.
-
5
Separate the sections so that one is positioned on the left, one is on the right and one is in the middle. Lift the section on the left over the middle section. Lift the section on the right over the middle section. Repeat the braiding once.
-
6
Pick up a 1/2-inch thick section of hair from the section directly underneath the braid. Place this new section along with the middle section of hair. Lift the left strand over the middle strand, lift the right strand over the middle strand. Pull each section of hair firmly to create a neat, even and tight braid.
-
7
Repeat Step 6 until you have braided the entire length of the section of hair, and the loose hair below it if you wish. Secure the end of the cornrow in place with a clear hair elastic.
-
8
Repeat Steps 5, 6 and 7 with the remainder of the hair until you have braided the desired amount of cornrows.
