Instructions

    • 1

Go to the library or online and take a look at Gypsy clothing. Notice the bright colors that make the apparel distinct and incorporate them into your design for a Gypsy scarf.

    • 2

Make a Gypsy scarf pattern. Sketch in a design that you are going to follow. For example, you might want to have 10 to 15 rows of red, followed by 5 to 6 rows of green and then another 10 to 15 rows of blue.

    • 3

Cast on 30 stitches -- or more if you want a very wide scarf -- on 9mm or 10 mm needles.

    • 4

Use the stockinette stitch if you don't mind that the scarf will curl, as it will give it a peasant look. If you want it to be flat and smooth, use a ribbed stitch. Either way, it will drape nicely around your neck.

    • 5

Change colors as outlined in your pattern. If you don't like the way a certain section looks, you can unravel it and re-knit it with a different color.

    • 6

Calculate how long you want the scarf to be. You may want to stop at 45 to 50 inches, or you may want to keep going, depending on the pattern you designed. When you reach the length you want, bind off the stitches.
