How to Braid a Mohawk Hairstyle

Braid a mohawk instead of styling it up.

Braiding, also known as plaiting, is the process of interlacing strands of hair or rope to create an interwoven pattern. A mohawk is a type of hairstyle that traditionally features a long, spiked strip of hair down the center of the head. It's possible to braid a mohawk hairstyle using a simple three strand hair braiding technique. You can adjust the size of the braids to create a braided mohawk that reflects your individuality and personal style.

Things You'll Need

• Hair spray
• Paddle brush
• Comb
• Hair styling product (gel or cream)

Instructions

1. Start with clean, dry hair. Brush the paddle brush through the mohawk to remove any knots or tangles.

2. Apply the hair styling product from the roots to the tips of the hair. Brush through the hair with the paddle brush to ensure that the product is evenly distributed.

3. Separate the section of hair that you want to braid. The size of the section should depend on your personal preferences, but a good starting point is a 1-inch thick section of hair that's the width of your mohawk.

4. Divide this section into three equal sized sections. Separate the three sections so that one is positioned to the left, one to the right and one in the middle. Lift the left-hand section over the middle section. Lift the right-hand section over the middle section. Repeat this technique until you have braided the desired length of mohawk.

5. Tilt the head forward so that the braid is hanging upside down. Shield your eyes with one hand, and spray a generous amount of hair spray onto the braid. Allow it to dry for 30 seconds before lifting the head back up.

6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until you have braided the entire mohawk.

Tips & Warnings

• Extra long mohawks may require a firm hold wax to securely hold the braids in an upright position.

• Only spray hairspray in well-ventilated areas.
