How to Make Your Own Centerpieces for 1st Birthdays
A child's first birthday is an exciting event, especially for the child's parents. Since your child most likely cannot yet voice his opinion, you will have to figure out a theme of decoration on your own. Though you will want to include all the birthday party basics such as balloons and streamers, consider creating your own centerpieces for the tables at your party. Not only will your guests be impressed with your effort and creativity, your budget will be impressively low, too. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Large cupcake cups
- Floral foam balls

- Scissors
- Ribbon
- Craft knife
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut the floral foam ball in half so that it forms two semi-circles.
-
2
Fit one of the semi-circles flat side down into the bottom of the cupcake cup. Trim the edges of the foam with a craft knife if necessary.
-
-
3
Stick a No. 1 candle in the center of the round part of the foam ball that is sticking up from the cupcake cup. Glue the candle in place with hot glue.
-
4
Glue flowers of your choosing all around the candle on the top of the foam ball. Cover the ball completely so the flowers resemble a floral cupcake in the cupcake cup.
-
5
Cut a length of ribbon about a foot long. Tie the ribbon in a bow around the candle in the center of the centerpiece. Glue it in place so that it does not slide too far down the candle.
-
6
Repeat the process to make as many centerpieces as you need to decorate each table at your party.

Tips & Warnings
You may want to use blue cupcake cups for a boy's birthday party and pink for a girl's. You may also color code the candles and the ribbon if you like.
If you are using fresh flowers you may want to make these centerpieces as near to the party as possible so that the flowers do not wilt. If this does not suit your schedule you may use fake flowers instead.
