How to Make Travel Size Baby Wipe Covers

When you travel with baby, you need to pack all of the diaper changing supplies you may need while you're out. Many companies have travel baby wipe containers in an ideal size for packing in the diaper bag. A cursory glance through any boutique baby shop will probably turn up baby wipe cases covered with colorful fabric and decorative ribbons. Instead of paying for these boutique items, make travel size baby wipe covers yourself using materials you may already have on hand.

Things You'll Need

  • Cotton fabric, 1/8 yard
  • Baby wipe container
  • Fabric marker
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Small piece of thin batting
  • Glue gun
  • Seam sealant
  • Matching or coordinating ribbon, 1/2-inch wide

Instructions

    • 1

Spread the fabric out on a flat surface with the wrong side facing up. Open the baby wipe container flat so the top and bottom pieces rest side-by-side. Place the wipe container on the fabric so about 1 inch of fabric extends out from the edges of the wipe container.

    • 2

Trace around the wipe container onto the fabric with the fabric marker. Make the outline about 1/2 inch larger than the wipe container. Cut around the outline with the scissors.

    • 3

Measure the top of the baby wipe container with the tape measure and subtract 1/4 inch from the length and the width measurements. Cut a piece of batting that matches the adjusted measurements.

    • 4

Plug in the glue gun and wait for it to heat. Apply glue to the top edge of the baby wipe container and glue the batting piece to the top of the baby wipe container. Allow the glue to cool.

    • 5

Apply a line of glue along the side edge of the top of the baby wipe container and glue the fabric to the container. Match the edges of half of the fabric piece neatly to the edges of the container and press the fabric carefully over the glue.

    • 6

Pull the fabric piece around the hinged area of the container to the bottom half of the wipe container. Apply a line of glue along the side edge of the bottom of the wipe container and glue the other half of the fabric piece to the edges of the container in the same fashion.

    • 7

Trim away any excess fabric that extends past the top and bottom of the wipe container so the fabric ends about 1/16-inch before the edges of the container.

    • 8

Measure the edge of the wipe container from the left side near the hinge, around the front and around the right side to the hinge. Add 1 inch to the measurement and cut two pieces of ribbon this length.

    • 9

Apply liquid seam sealant to the raw edges of the ribbon pieces to prevent fraying. Allow the seam sealant to dry.

    • 10

Apply a line of glue along the top edge of the wipe container over the fabric. Place the edge of one of the ribbon pieces along the edge of the wipe container. Turn under the end of the ribbon 1/2 inch and align this end at the left side near the hinge. Press the ribbon along the entire top edge of the wipe container until you reach the right side near the hinge. Turn under the end of the ribbon 1/2 inch and glue it into place.

    • 11

Repeat the same process with the bottom of the wipe container and the remaining piece of ribbon. The ribbon will conceal the raw edges of the fabric on the wipe container.
