Craig Newmark founded Craigslist in 1995 as an email newsletter.

Craigslist was founded as an event newsletter in the mid-1990s. Since then, it's grown into a large online classifieds marketplace, with more than 20 million page views per month, according to its FAQ at the time of publication. The Craigslist posting tool includes a button to add images; however, the images appear at the bottom of the listing. Alternatively, you can use HTML to embed an image into the middle of a listing.

Instructions

    • 1

      Visit a photo-sharing website, such as Photobucket or Flickr. Sign in to your account (or create one) and upload the picture you want to embed. Click the picture to display its URL. Highlight and copy the direct photo URL.

    • 2

      Navigate to the Craigslist site for your city or metro area. Click on "Post to Classifieds," then select your category and subcategory.

    • 3

      Create your listing as you normally would, giving it a title and descriptive text.

    • 4

      Click your mouse where you want to embed the image to move the cursor.

    • 5

      Type the image embed code:

      <img src="http://insert-image-URL-here.com">

      Replace insert-image-URL-here.com with your photo's direct URL.

      Click on "Continue" to review your posting. You'll now be able to see the embedded image. Enter your personal information -- email address, name, etc. -- and click "Post."
