Use your iPad to show media on a monitor.

Although your iPad is not a computer in the traditional sense, it still has many features that you can find on a computer. One such feature is the ability to connect to an external monitor to display images or video. Like a regular computer, an iPad is able to display a mirror image of its screen on the monitor. This is a useful feature to use if you have to make a presentation to a group of people. You must purchase the correct adapter before you can connect your iPad to a monitor.

Instructions

    • 1

Charge your iPad. If you are using the VGA Adapter to connect to the monitor, you need to fully charge your iPad because you cannot connect it to a power source after you plug the adapter in. However, if you are using the Digital AV Adapter, you can charge the iPad while the adapter is connected because there is a port on the adapter to insert a USB cable to charge the device.

    • 2

Insert one end of the appropriate adapter into the iPad's connector at the bottom of the device. For example, if the monitor has an HDMI port, use the Digital AV Adapter.

    • 3

Insert one end of the applicable connection cable into the appropriate port on the monitor. For example, if the monitor has an HDMI port, use an HDMI cable to connect the iPad and the monitor.

    • 4

Insert the other end of the applicable connection cable into the other end of the iPad adapter. The iPad automatically displays its screen on the monitor.
