How to Do a Men's Haircut Crew Cut at Home thumbnail
A crew cut is similar to a tapered cut except there is a little more length in the front.

The crew cut is a standard haircut for men in the military. Many men (and some women), once they have concluded their tour of duty, continue to have their hair styled this way, either out of habit or comfort. It is also popular with people who have not served in the military due to the easy maintainability of the cut. It is a haircut where the hair is close cropped all the way around the head, but left a little longer in the front. Styling a crew cut at home requires a good set of electric clippers equipped with several clipper gates, as well as other common styling tools. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the length and shape of the desired crew cut. Comb the hair in the same direction that it is growing.

    • 2

Select a medium-sized clipper gate and attach it to a set of electric hair clippers. Properly secure the gate to the clippers.

    • 3

Cut the hair, starting at the front hairline and cutting backward to the top-rear section of the head. Repeat for the entire top of the head until the hair is uniform, no more than 1 inch in length on the top of the head.

    • 4

Select a smaller gate and attach it to the clippers. Clip all of the hair on either side of the head to the same length all the way around. Switch to a smaller gate and repeat until you achieve the shape and length desired.

    • 5

Remove the gate from the clippers and shave any hair that is found on the back of the neck. Use the clippers to trim any hair behind the ears.

    • 6

Trim the hair in front and around the ears to correct any unevenness using sharp scissors and the fine teeth of a cutting comb. Style the hair with gel or mousse, if desired.
