Making best friend keychains is a fun party activity.

"Best Friend" keychains are very easy to make. These are a set of two keychains where one says "best" and the other says "friend." You can make one for yourself and a friend, or you can give both to someone else. They only take a few minutes to make and the materials are inexpensive.

Things You'll Need

  • Scissors
  • Craft cord
  • 2 keyrings
  • Alphabet beads
  • Colored pony beads

Instructions

    • 1

Use scissors to cut two pieces of craft cord so each is about 8 inches long. Fold one of the cords in half, and lay the fold on top of the keyring. Pull the ends of the cord around the keyring, through the hoop, and pull tight. Do the same to the other keyring

    • 2

Select two pony beads of any color, and feed them onto both of the strands on one of the keyrings. Push them all the way to the keyring, and then add alphabet beads that spell out "best," with the "b" starting closest to the keyring. If the alphabet bead set comes with hearts or blanks, add two of these to the end of "best". Push all of the beads as close to the keyring as the cord allows and knot just under the lowest bead, so the beads will not slide off. Add two pony beads of any color to both tails, and make a knot at the very bottom of the tails.

Select two pony beads that match the beads you used on the "best" chain, and slide them

over the cords on the other keychain. Spell out "friend" with the alphabet beads on the cords, starting the word nearest the keyring. Push the beads as close to the keyring as possible, and then make a knot just under the "d." Add two pony beads to each tail that match the beads on the "best" chain, and knot the end of these tails.

Tips & Warnings

  • Any special metal or wooden bead can be added to these keychains.

  • The craft cord comes in a variety of colors, including rainbow. Use a different color to match your theme.

  • If you are concerned about the beads sliding off in spite of the knots, use some hot glue to keep the beads on the keychain.

  • This craft contains many small parts, and these can present a choking hazard for little children. Keep age appropriateness in mind when you decide on this as a craft activity.
