How to Get a Sudowoodo in "Pokemon Emerald"

Sudowoodo is a tricky Pokemon that disguises itself as a tree to avoid confrontation in "Pokemon Emerald." In order to catch a Sudowoodo for your Pokemon team, you need a special item called a Wailmer Pail and you must be in a special location called the Battle Frontier. The Battle Frontier does not open until you have beaten the game's main storyline. Unlike most Pokemon, there is only one Sudowoodo in the entire game, so you only have one opportunity to capture it.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk to the woman behind the counter at the Flower Shop in Route 104, south of Rustburo City. She will give you a Wailmer Pail as a gift.

    • 2

Complete the game's primary storyline by defeating the Elite Four and your Rival. When you load your game again after doing so, you will begin back in your house. Your Dad will give you the S.S Tidal Ticket and you will receive a call from Scott, asking you to meet him on the ship.

    • 3

Meet Scott on the ship at either the Lilycove Docks or the Slateport Docks. Take the ship to the Battle Frontier.

    • 4

Travel to the southeast section of the Battle Frontier and look for an odd-looking tree that is different from all the others.

    • 5

Open your menu and select the "Wailmer Pail." Use the Wailmer Pail while standing next to the tree to trigger an encounter with a wild Sudowoodo.

    • 6

Weaken the Sudowoodo using your preferred strategy and throw a PokeBall to capture it.

Tips & Warnings

  • After you have visited the Battle Frontier once, you can return at any time by using Fly or by taking the boat.

  • Save your game before you use the Wailmer Pail on Sudowoodo and reload if you accidentally knock it out before capturing it. Sudowoodo is a Level 40 Pokemon, however at this point in the game many of your Pokemon are likely strong enough to knock out Sudowoodo in one or two hits. Use a lower-leveled Pokemon to ensure you do not knock out Sudowoodo before you can capture it.
