Things You'll Need

  • Paper drywall tape
  • Utility blade
  • Scissors
  • Drywall compound
  • Drywall knife
  • Sanding block
  • Sandpaper

      Cut a length of paper drywall tape to match the length of the joint, using a utility blade.

      Cut both ends of the tape to a point, using the scissors.

      Scoop approximately one cup of drywall compound onto a drywall knife.

      Hold the knife at an angle with the drywall compound against the edge of the joint. Pull the drywall knife along the edge of the joint distributing an even layer of compound across the surface.

      Press the tape into the center of the joint. Take care to avoid wrinkling the paper or pressing the tape into the center crack of the joint.

      Run your drywall knife along the entire length of the tape removing any excess compound. Allow the compound to dry thoroughly.

      Sand the joint lightly with a sanding block until smooth.
