How to Decorate Foam Fingers
Often seen on the hands of sports fans as they cheer on their favorite teams, foam fingers can be decorated and customized for sporting events, pep rallies, graduations and even wall decor. You can find blank foam fingers, also called "foam hands," at local craft stores or online craft suppliers. With just a few supplies and half an hour, you can customize a foam finger and make it your own.

1
Assemble your foam letters and stencils and arrange them on your foam finger in a way that doesn't look too crowded. Stand back to make sure you can read the message on your foam finger from a distance.
-
2
Adhere the foam letters to the foam finger form. Even if the foam letters have a sticker backing, apply craft glue to the back of the letters and firmly press them into the foam. The sticker backing on the foam letters often does not last very long.

3
Lay newspapers out on your work surface and open windows for ventilation. If possible, perform this step outside. Place the foam finger on the newspapers with the stencil in the desired position. Cover areas not covered by the stencil that you don't want spray-painted. Shake the can of paint, hold the can about 18 inches from the finger and spray evenly. Remove the stencil and allow the paint to dry.

4
Add additional writing or images with foam paint. Use a color of foam paint that contrasts with the background color of the foam finger.
-
5
Use another color of foam paint to add a thin border around the outside of the foam finger. You can also add finger lines and detailing with this color. Do not touch the foam paint until it's completely dry; it's difficult to correct smudges.
