Instructions

    • 1

Measure your waist. Place the tape measure just above your bellybutton and wrap it around. Do not take a deep breath in while you measure, as this will give you an inaccurate measurement. If your waist measures more than 30 inches, use the larger sized tablecloth.

    • 2

Use your calculator to determine the size of your skirt opening. Take the number you got for your waist measurement and divide it by 3.14. Take that number and divide it by 2. This is called the radius and this assures that your skirt will fit around your waist.

    • 3

Fold your tablecloth in half then fold it in half again. Your tablecloth should be one quarter when done. The folded corner is the center of your material.

    • 4

Place the end of your tape measure on the corner edge of the quartered tablecloth. Measure up the amount you got for your radius. Mark it with fabric chalk. Do this at several angles to get a curved, dotted line along the quartered corner. Cut along the chalk line to make the waist opening of your skirt. Be sure to cut through all four layers of the material.

    • 5

Unfold your tablecloth skirt and lay it out on a flat surface. From the center opening, cut a 7-inch slit. Try your skirt on to make sure it fits over your hips. If it does not fit, make the slit longer.

    • 6

Place the bias tape over both edges of the slit. Pin it in place. Machine stitch and trim the excess. Cover the edges of the waistband with bias tape and pin it in place. Machine stitch all the way around. Trim any excess with scissors.

    • 7

Hand stitch a square of fabric adhesive tape to the top openings of the slit. This will serve as the fastener for your skirt.

    • 8

Complete your new outfit with a colorful tank top in the summertime or a warm sweater in the winter.
