How to Make a Straight Cut on a Foam Board

Use a ruler to draw a straight line across the length of the foam board.

If you have foam board that you need to cut into a straight line, you will need to purchase special foam cutting tools. You can purchase these tools from online vendors specializing in foam-cutting tools. You can measure the foam with a regular ruler; the key is to use a ruler or straight edge to make sure the line you draw on the foam board is straight.

Things You'll Need

• Foam board straight cutting tool
• Foam board ruler/straight rail
• 2 foam board pieces

Instructions

1. Place two pieces of foam board on top of one another on a flat workspace. The bottom piece of foam board serves as cutting mat for the first.

2. Place the ruler, straight edge or foam measuring rail on the foam either vertically or horizontally. Adjust the ruler until it is straight. Draw a line against the ruler with a pencil.

3. Line up the foam measuring rail against the line. Attach the foam cutting tool on top of the rail. The foam cutting tool attaches to the rail much like a slider on a paper cutter is positioned. Pull the foam cutter down the rail. The cutter will cut the foam in a straight line.
