How to Crochet a Circular Vest
Circular vests make a great addition to anyone's wardrobe. The front of the vest is ruffled and adds a dressy look to any outfit. Making a crochet circular vest is fast, simple and inexpensive. This vest requires no sewing skills. The project only uses three types of crochet stitches, so anyone is capable of completing this vest. Create circular vests in every color for yourself, Christmas or birthday gifts or for selling at craft shows.

1
Start the yarn on the crochet hook by wrapping the yarn around the crochet hook once, and catching the yarn with the hook. Pull the yarn through the loop on the crochet hook. This gives you your first loop on the crochet hook.
-
2
Catch the yarn with the crochet hook, and pull it through the loop on the hook. This makes a chain stitch. Make two more chain stitches.

3
Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook once, and slide the crochet hook through the first chain stitch you made. Catch the yarn and pull it through the chain stitch. Catch the yarn and pull it through the first two loops on the crochet hook. Catch the yarn and pull it through the remaining loops on the hook. This makes a double crochet stitch.
-
4
Make eight more double crochet stitches in the same chain stitch. Slide the yarn through the first stitch in the row and catch the yarn with the hook. Pull the yarn through the stitch and the loop on the crochet hook. This makes a slip stitch. This completes the first row.
-
5
Chain two stitches, and place two double crochet stitches into the top of each stitch on the row below. Repeat this procedure for the next eight rows.
-
6
Fold the stitched piece in half, so it looks like a half circle with the flat side facing you. Make sure the last stitch is in the center, not on the folded edge. This center point is the back of the vest. Measure three inches from the left side of the fold and place a safety pin in the top and bottom layer of stitched material. Repeat the procedure on the right side.
-
7
Crochet two chain stitches, and alternate placing one double crochet stitch and two double crochet stitches into each stitch on the row below. When you get to the first safety pin, make fourteen chain stitches. Starting at the next stitch after the second safety pin, alternate one then two double crochet stitches in each stitch until you reach the next safety pin.
Chain fourteen stitches, and then resume the double crochet stitch pattern after the next safety pin. When you get to the end of the row, slip stitch the first and last stitch together. Remove all of the safety pins.
-
8
Chain two stitches, and place one double crochet in the first stitch. Alternate putting one double crochet stitch then two double crochet stitches into each stitch on the last row. Slip stitch the first and last stitch together. Repeat this procedure for six more rows.
-
9
Cut the yarn four inches away from the last stitch on the side facing the yarn skein. Pull the yarn through the last stitch, and pull it tight. Weave the excess yarn into the existing stitches using the crochet hook. Weave in any excess yarn in the center where you started the vest, and it is done.

Tips & Warnings
This makes a large vest. If you want it larger add two extra rows for each size to step five. If you want it smaller, remove two rows for each size from step five. Everything else remains the same.
