How to Make Chrome Shiny

Chrome is a metal commonly used for a wide range of objects. Many cars, trucks and motorcycles have chrome wheel rims. Manufacturers also use chrome for appliances, furniture hardware, lighting, and bathroom and kitchen fixtures. Chrome is a silvery metal with many uses. It has a lustrous sheen, but it is also strong, durable and resistant to tarnishing. Over time chrome loses its luster due to weather conditions, dirt and wear and tear. Cleaning and polishing chrome gets back the shine.

Things You'll Need

• Bucket
• Dishwashing liquid
• Sponge
• Cloths
• Chrome wax

Instructions

1. Fill a bucket with warm water. Add a one to three tablespoons of dishwashing liquid to make soapy water.

2. Dip a cloth or sponge into the soapy water. Clean the chrome.

3. Fill a bucket with clean water. Rinse off the soap completely.

4. Dry the chrome with a clean cloth. Make certain all areas are dry because chrome is prone to water spotting.

5. Dip a clean cloth into chrome wax. Massage the wax into the chrome to polish it. Apply one to three coats. Chrome wax provides a finish to the metal that keeps it clean and shiny for longer periods of time.

• For tougher jobs or to remove tarnish, use vinegar and a cloth to clean chrome.
