How to Build a Miniature Lamp Post
Building miniatures, such as a miniature lamp post for a train set or dollhouse, is a popular pastime for many hobbyists. A hobbyist will build a miniature lamp post and add it to the streets of a town for a train to run past, or add it to the outside porch of a dollhouse. These details add to the realism of the miniature world. Once created, the hobbyist can use a craft knife or rotary tool to add more details by carving designs.
Things You'll Need
- Wood dowel
- Saw, dril and craft knife or rotary tool with bits
- Paint or stain
- Miniature lighting kit
Instructions

-
1
Cut a wooden dowel to the height needed for the miniature lamp post.
-
2
Create a hole by drilling through the center core of the dowel. The hole should be large enough to fit the wire cord from the lighting kit.
-
-
3
Add a notch on the bottom side edge of the dowel for the wire to go through. This way the post will be level when standing.
-
4
Add details to the lamp post, if desired, by carving.
-
5
Paint or stain the post the desired color.
-
6
Attach the light by threading the cord through the post and standing the bulb on top of the dowel.
