Take some special considerations when inviting a politician to your dinner party.

Hosting dinners is a great way to raise funds or awareness about a certain cause in your community or around the world. Inviting politicians to these types of events is crucial, especially if you want political change to happen in the favor of the cause you're trying to support. While writing a dinner invitation to an influential politician may seem intimidating, it actually doesn't differ much from writing a dinner invitation to any other person on your guest list.

Instructions

    • 1

Address the envelope to the politician herself. Even though it's likely her secretary will be the one to open it first, you want to be clear that the invitation is for her and not some random intern working in her office.

    • 2

Write his political title in front of his name anywhere it appears within the invitation or the envelope. For example, write "Senator Joe Goldsmith" instead of "Mr. Joe Goldsmith." This reinforces his influential stance and shows a greater level of respect for the position he has worked hard to achieve.

    • 3

Underneath the basic information that you include in all of your invitations like date, time, location, rsvp and what to do about special dietary needs, include a special note directly to the politician. Do some research about her political campaigns, and illustrate how attending this dinner will not only help the cause you're supporting, but will also prove to be a benefit for her work as well. If the design of your invitations doesn't provide you with adequate space for a note, insert the note into the invitation on a small piece of stationery.

Tips & Warnings

  • Allow the politician to bring a guest to the dinner. He may choose to bring his spouse or someone else from his office. Chances are that he'll enjoy the dinner more if he's with someone he knows, and his guest may also carry some important political weight for your cause.
