How to Make Fabric Keychains
As every parent knows, kids can be easily distracted. In the rush to get out the door for school, summer camp or a play-date, it is all too easy for absent-minded children to forget small items. Help your kids remember to take their house key with them by having them make their own key chain. They'll be more attached to an object they made themselves--and less likely to leave home without their key. The project is quick and requires no sewing skills.

Cut a piece of fabric 1 1/2 inches by 10 inches. Slide a key ring onto the strip.

Fold the fabric strip in half, right side out, and adjust the key ring to the strip's midpoint. Place a line of glue horizontally across the inside of one layer, just above the key ring. Press the two layers together, gluing them closed.

Cut a 3-inch strip of 1/4-inch ribbon in a coordinating color. Apply glue to the wrong side and wrap it around the glued seam by the key ring. Press it onto the fabric tightly and wait for the glue to dry.

Measure and cut strips of fabric fastener to 1/2 inch by 1 1/4 inches. Cut one strip of the hook side and one strip of the fuzzy side.

Glue the fuzzy strip of fabric fastener along the top outside edge of one end of the key chain. Glue the hook strip of fabric fastener along the top inside edge of the other end. Close the fabric fastener to attach the two ends and make a fabric loop that your child can wear on her wrist like a bracelet.
