How to Start an iTunes Channel

Starting an iTunes channel will also allow listeners to download your podcast to an iPod.

Setting up an iTunes channel allows you to disseminate your podcast to the public through the popular Apple music service. Itunes does not host podcasts itself, but they are available through links in the iTunes store. To set up a channel, you have to create an audio sample and submit it to the iTunes store. If you're confident that your podcast is worth a listen, setting up a channel is one of the best ways to get yourself heard by a large audience.

Instructions

    • 1

Create your podcast in a format supported by iTunes. The iTunes store supports .m4a, .mp3, .mov, .mp4, .m4v, .pdf and .epub.

    • 2

Post your podcast to a publicly accessible URL. If your URL is private, iTunes will not be able to link to it and create a channel for your podcast.

    • 3

Create metadata for your show. You will need to type a brief description along with searchable keywords that help listeners find your channel and let them know what it's about.

    • 4

Create cover art for your channel. Your channel should reflect the kind of information listeners will hear on the podcast.

    • 5

Click on the "Submit a Podcast" link in the Podcasts Directory section of the iTunes store. Fill in the prescribed information. You will need to register for an iTunes account and log in to that account to complete this process. Once you have submitted your podcast, wait until the iTunes staff e-mails you to let you know your channel has gone up on iTunes.
