How to Show the Blog Description in a Header in WordPress

In WordPress, the description, or tagline, summarizes the content of your blog for readers and search engines. Most themes allow you to choose whether to show this in the site header, although customization options vary depending on the theme and which version -- paid or free -- you have activated. Themes usually show both title and tagline by default, but you can change this manually from within your Dashboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your WordPress Dashboard.

    • 2

Click "Appearance" in the left sidebar.

    • 3

Click "Header" in the drop-down menu.

    • 4

Select "Show Description," "Show Tagline" or "Show Text," depending on which option appears, then click "Save Changes."

Tips & Warnings

  • Some themes have their own custom settings page on the WordPress Dashboard, under the "Appearances" tab. Managing blog descriptions this way depends on the theme.
