Instructions

    • 1

Develop an invitation list for a retirement dinner. Invite fellow employees and the retiree's family members. Go over the list with the retiree and allow her to add or delete individuals from it.

    • 2

Call the retiree's favorite restaurants and ask if it can accommodate the number of individuals on the guest list. Do not forget to include the retiree and yourself in the head count. Choose a restaurant that can accommodate the group and make a reservation for the day and time decided on by you and the retiree.

    • 3

Fill in pre-printed invitations with the date, time and location of the retirement dinner. Also include a request for guests to R.S.V.P. with your name, and either e-mail or phone number, so that they can contact you. Place each invitation in an envelope and address to hand out at work. For those that need to be mailed, address the envelopes, stamp and mail. Remember to give one to the retiree as well.

Hand out the retirement dinner invitations at work. Check off individuals on your guest list as they R.S.V.P. The day before the retirement dinner, contact those that have not responded. Count up the individuals attending and call the restaurant to change the reservation to the new head count, if necessary.

Arrive at the restaurant at least 15 minutes early so you can greet guests as they arrive. Introduce guests to each other. It is appropriate for you to pick up the bill for the retiree and any of his family members that attend.
