How to Decorate a Plastic Comb

Using a comb with a large, plastic base will give you lots of room to decorate.

Generic, plain plastic hair combs are boring. There are different types of combs; one that you comb your hair with and the other kind that can be placed in the hair as an accessory. Both kinds can be crafted with similar methods to create something special. Whether it is for yourself or a gift, you can make something special out of a few common design elements. This is an easy craft project that can be personalized to your own taste and become something to display and use for a long time.

Things You'll Need

• Newspaper
• Hot glue gun
• Hot glue sticks
• Beads or other decorative items
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Spread newspaper out on your work surface to protect it from glue. Lay out all of the items that you will need for the craft, such as the comb, beads, hot glue gun and sticks, scissors silk flower petals and ribbons.

2. Plan the comb's design. If the hair comb is to compliment a cheerleader's uniform, design it using ribbons that are in the school's colors. For a bridal hair comb, adorn it with flowers that match the theme and color of the wedding. Cut the ribbons and flower petals if you are using them. Place beads and other design elements where you will want them. Creating the design before gluing it on will allow you to change elements, take things out or add to the design.

3. Glue all of the design elements on one at a time, starting with the bottom layer. If you are only using one layer, such as a row of beads, glue them one at a time from left to right. Hold each item in place for a few seconds before moving on to the next one.

4. Allow the glue to cool for 20 minutes before moving the comb.
