Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of the person's waist who will wear the small vest to assure that the vest is sized properly. Crochet one row of single of crochet that is ½ to 1 inch longer than the width of their waist. Crochet the rows using half double, single or double crochet stitches. Continue using the same stitch or a pattern of these stitches throughout the completion of the small vest.

Crochet additional rows of chains above the first chain. Add crochet chains until you reach the point where the lower portion of the armholes begins. Tie off the yarn, leaving a four-inch tail free.

    • 3

Crochet a new row of stitches at the height of the lower right armhole; turn this row of crochet up toward the right shoulder. Finish the crochet chain and tie off the yarn, leaving a four-inch tail. Start a new row of stitches at the height of the lower left armhole; turn the crochet so that it travels up toward the left shoulder. Crochet additional rows of vertical stitches until you fill in the front of the small vest.

Crochet a new row of stitches at the back of the vest. Crochet the row of stitches vertically starting at the back of the left side at the bottom of the lower left arm hold. Continue this row up until it reaches the top of the left shoulder. Cut and tie off the strand of yarn, leaving a four-inch tail free.

Begin a new row of stitches that travels vertically starting from the back of the vest on the right side, at the height of the lower portion of the right armhole up to the height of the right shoulder. Cut and tie off the strand of yarn, leaving a four-inch tail free. Crochet vertical rows of stitches until the entire back of the vest is filled in.

    • 6

Crochet rows of stitches to connect the two vertical rows until the front of the small vest is the same as the back.

    • 7

Insert the whipstitches through the tops of the crochet stitches to connect the front of the right shoulder to the back of the right shoulder. Connect the front of the left shoulder to the back of the left shoulder using whipstitches that run through the tops of the crochet stitches.
