How to Build a Teepee for Team Building

Teepee building activities can be completed outside or inside if there is adequate space.

One way to improve working relationships is through team-building activities. These activities can be used in schools to improve interactions among students or at workplaces to improve the relationships among co-workers. Team-building activities typically require team members to work together to accomplish a goal. This goal may be building something, racing or competing in contests. One example of a team-building activity is building a teepee.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand the three poles apart three feet wider than the width of the cover to form a tripod. Three team members will be needed to hold the poles in place and move the ends toward each other until they meet in the middle. Let the poles overlap at the top.

    • 2

Tie the rope around the poles where they meet at the top. A fourth team member will be needed to tie the rope. When tied together, the poles should stand securely in place. If they do not, tie the rope tighter or stretch the poles wider apart. If there are fewer than four team members, you may tie the poles together while they lie on the ground, then stand them up and spread them out at the base.

    • 3

Wrap the canvas or sheet around the poles. Use the second length of rope to tie the canvas around the top to hold it in place. You may also cut a hole on each corner at the top of the canvas and tie the rope through the holes.

Decorate the tent with paint. Use symbols, colors and designs that represent the team, school or company where the teammates work. For example, paint an eagle to represent a school mascot or blue wavy lines to represent a company that improves water quality. Add symbols to represent each team member.
