How to Make Valentine's Day String Bracelets
Valentine's Day promotes love and friendship. This is shown through the giving and wearing of clothing items, cards, candy, flowers and jewelry. Red and white symbolize the holiday in many designs. One craft item that is easy to make and fun to give are string bracelets. String bracelets are also called friendship bracelets. Several designs are available to weave or knot embroidery floss, yarn or pearl cotton into unique, one-of-a-kind bracelets. A clasp isn't necessary as the bracelets are just tied to the wrist, making them an inexpensive craft item.

Braided String Bracelet
-
1
Measure and cut two red pieces of embroidery floss 24 inches long and one white piece 24 inches long.
-
2
Match the ends of the three pieces of embroidery floss. Tie a knot approximately 1 inch from one end. Clip the knot under the clip on a clipboard.
-
-
3
Arrange the embroidery floss so that the white piece of floss is in the middle.
-
4
Pick up the outside left piece of embroidery floss and place it diagonally across the center piece while moving the center floss to the left of the grouping. Pull the floss tight so that the weave is directly under the clipboard but doesn't pucker the braid.
-
5
Pick up the outside right piece of embroidery floss and place it diagonally across the center piece while moving the center floss to the right of the grouping. Pull the floss tight so that the weave is directly under the clipboard but doesn't pucker the braid.
-
6
Cross the outer left piece of floss over the center while moving the center piece to the left. Pull the floss so that the stitch is flush with the last braided stitch.
-
7
Cross the outer right piece of floss over the center while moving the center piece to the right. Pull the floss so that the stitch is flush with the last braided stitch. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 for the length of the floss.
-
8
Tie the braid off approximately 1 inch from the end of the embroidery floss.

Cut one piece of red and one piece of white embroidery floss 36 inches long. Match the ends and fold in half. Tie a knot approximately 1 inch from the end. Clip the knot under the clip on a clipboard.
-
10
Arrange the embroidery floss so that a red strand is on the left side and a white strand is on the right. Fold the left red piece over the center two pieces of floss to form an L. Leave a 1-inch loop to the left of the center pieces of floss. Put the end of the left piece under the outer right piece of floss.
-
11
Place the end of the right piece of floss under the two center pieces and through the loop on the left side. Pull the two ends tight and slide them to the top of the center pieces. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until approximately 2 inches remain on both pieces of floss.

Tie a knot at the end of the spiral weave. Cut the long center pieces of floss and the right and left floss so that there is approximately a 1-inch tail.
