If you want to type symbols such as accented letters and foreign alphabet characters in Mozilla Thunderbird, there is no built-in solution to this problem. Fortunately, Mozilla has a third-party add-on that lets users type a variety of different symbols in Thunderbird emails. Once the add-on is installed via the Mozilla website, you can access a menu of symbols while composing email by simply pressing a few keys on the keyboard.
