How to Change From Shake Shingle Siding to Stucco
Shake-shingle siding can be a good option for some homeowners. However, if it's about time for that old shingle siding to go, you might not want to replace it with the same material. Instead, add a more modern look to the exterior surface of your home using stucco. Things You'll Need
- Pitchfork
- Hammer
- Power nailer
- Roofing nails
- Grade-D builder's paper
- Tin snips
- Galvanized metal lath
- Stucco
- Trowel

Insert a pitchfork beneath the shake-shingle siding underneath a layer of shingle and push upward. This will dislodge the shingles and pull them off your house.

Pull off remaining nails with your hammer and remove the paper layer from the house.

Install a layer of new grade-D builder's paper to the surface of the house by attaching with roofing nails.

Use tin snips to cut sheets of galvanized metal lath to fit over the builder's paper. Attach it with roofing nails.

Scoop up the new layer of stucco with a trowel and use it to cover the metal lath. Add a thick layer to cover the entire lath surface.

Create the texture with the edges and pointed surface of the trowel. The exact texture is up to you, and there are multitudes of possibilities with stucco design. Choose a simple texture that you can repeat across the entire house.
