How to Make a Keychain From Yarn
Make your own key chain lanyard in the colors that you like, so you won't lose your keys in the dark depths of your purse. Macrame is a technique used to knot lengths of string together to make a strong rope, which is ideal for making a lanyard that will last even while being jostled around on your key ring. Use yarn, which comes in many different colors, and choose the thicker kind so that the lanyard is stronger.

1
Measure and cut two pieces of yarn to 2 feet long. Line up the ends of the yarn and fold them in half together with the middles of the yarn through the loop at the bottom of a key ring or lanyard spring hook. Tie them with a tight overhand knot so that you have four lengths of yarn to work with.

2
Hook the lanyard spring hook or key ring to something so that it will hold still while you work. Hold the two center strings down. Cross the string on the far left over the two strings in the middle and under the string on the far right and leave a small loop on the far left. Bring the string on the far right under the two in the middle and through the loop created by string on the far left. Pull the ends of the string to tighten the knot.

Bring the yarn that is now on the far right over the pieces in the middle and under the string on the far left. Cross the string on the far left under the middle ones and over the one on the far right and tighten the knot. Repeat this process until you have 2 inches of loose ends left, and tie the group of strings in an overhand knot.

4
Add pony beads to the loose ends of the string and tie the ends after the beads in two overhand knots to keep the beads from sliding off. Trim the excess yarn from the ends.
