How to Get Taming the Beast in WoW
In "World of Warcraft," a Hunter isn't much good without a well-trained pet. Once you reach level 10, you'll finally be ready to get your first animal companion. The "Taming the Beast" quest chain will start you off on your path to taming and training ferocious creatures to aid you in combat. The specific requirements of this quest will depend on the race of your character, but the basic mechanics of the quest remain the same.

Seek out the animal that your class trainer has directed you to tame. This animal will vary according to your race. Though you may need to travel a bit to find it, the animal should not be located too far away from the trainer. You will need to go off the path to find your animal, so make sure that you have your weapons equipped and any healing potions at the ready. Once you have found your animal and successfully used the taming rod, return to the class trainer.

Complete the second and third legs of the Taming the Beast quest line. After each successful taming, your class trainer will send you back out into the wild to find a different animal. These animals represent the types of pets you will be able to have as a hunter. For example, Night Elves will need to train a Webwood Lurker (spider), a Nightsaber Stalker (wildcat), and a Strigid Screecher (owl). Once you have completed all three tasks, the class trainer will reward you with the ability to tame and train pets on your own. Upon quest completion, you will be directed to travel to your race's capital city and seek out the class trainer there.

Tips & Warnings
Different kinds of Hunter pets have different abilities. Do a little research on what different animals can do for you, rather than focusing solely on aesthetics.
