How to Attach a Crocheted Skirt to a T-Shirt
Attaching skirts to T-shirts is one of the simplest ways to make new dresses. The most difficult and time-consuming parts of the dress making process are the sleeves and neckline. By beginning with a T-shirt you have purchased, you bypass that step and begin the process with a comfortable and well-fitting top. Attaching a skirt is not difficult and can be done quickly. You can attach a skirt of any kind, including a gorgeous and feminine crocheted skirt.
Things You'll Need
- T-shirt
- Crocheted skirt
- Small steel crochet hook
- Fingering-weight crochet yarn
- Straight pins
- Needle and thread
- Measuring tape
- Sewing machine (optional)
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure the width of the bottom of the T-shirt.
-
2
Measure the width of the crocheted skirt. If the crocheted skirt is wider than the T-shirt, take a running stitch through the top edge of the skirt with the needle and thread and gather it to make it the same width.
-
-
3
Hold the right sides of the skirt and T-shirt together and pin it all the way around.
-
4
Stitch around the entire skirt using your needle and thread or sewing machine. Go slowly and carefully over the crocheted sections.
-
5
Take your steel crochet hook and fingering weight yarn. Make a slip stitch and then punch a hole in the T-shirt with the crochet hook. Put the needle through the crocheted skirt and the punched hole and do a single crochet stitch.
-
6
Repeat, single crocheting around the entire length of the skirt to reinforce the line of stitching and secure the skirt to the T-shirt.
