How to Troubleshoot the Drain in a GE Profile PDW7880GSS

Drain problems are common with dishwashers, due in part to the debris and residue that falls off of dishes during the wash process that can subsequently clog the drain valve or hose. While many dishwashers have a filtration system, a grinder or both to crunch up items, including the GE PDW7880GSS, drain issues may still occur. Troubleshooting the drain can help users resolve this issue and get the dishwasher back to performing normally. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wait for the GE dishwasher to complete draining out water from the tub if the "Start/Reset" light is blinking, which means the cycle was interrupted. The light stops blinking when the drain cycle finishes.

    • 2

Remove the cap from the air gap, if applicable, and clean out the inside of the air gap with a toothpick to remove debris. Return the cap to its position.

    • 3

Clean the kitchen drain, which connects to the dishwasher drain, by running the garbage disposer, if one is installed.

    • 4

Look in the bottom of the dishwasher for objects that might be blocking the drain valve and clear as needed.

    • 5

Straighten the drain hose, usually located under the sink. Disconnect the hose, and clean the inlet screen. Reconnect the drain hose to the dishwasher, tightening until firm.
