1
Measure from your child's shoulders to just above his ankles. Buy a length of black and a length of blue or gray satin or taffeta to that measurement, adding 3 inches for hems.
-
2
Lay the two rectangles of fabric flat together, right sides facing in. At one end of the rectangle, measure 6 inches in from the edge on both sides and make a mark. Draw a line from the mark you have made to the outside edge at the other end of the rectangle. Cut out both layers of fabric along the lines.

3
Sew a hem along the long outside edges of the cape. If you are not good at sewing, use fabric glue to hold the seams together.
-
4
Create a scalloped edge at the wide end of the cape by using a dinner plate as a template. Work across the bottom of the cape; use dressmaker's chalk to draw around half of the plate to create a scalloped edge. Cut through both layers of fabric and sew or glue a hem along the edge.
-
5
Turn the cape right side out. Use a pencil to push out the points at the bottom hem. Iron the seams and points flat.
-
6
Make a double fold along the top edge of the cape and sew or glue the top hem in place. Add stick-on Velcro tabs to the top corners of the cape to fasten it in place around your child's neck.
-
7
Finish by cutting out the Batman logo from yellow and black felt. Look at images online for inspiration. Glue it to the black side of the cape with fabric glue.
