Create links with Adobe InDesign's Hyperlinks panel

A graphic frame is a box in your InDesign layout that contains an image. Place a link in a graphic frame with InDesign's Hyperlinks panel. The Hyperlinks panel is a free-floating toolbar where you can set links to websites, files, other text in your document. You can even link to an email address and your readers can send an email directly from your link. InDesign hyperlinks work just like links on websites. When the document is exported as a digital file, readers click the link and arrive at the destination you specified.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the InDesign document you're working on.

    • 2

Go to the "View" menu and choose "Extras" then "Show Hyperlinks." This displays the Hyperlinks panel.

    • 3

Click on the graphic frame you want to convert to a hyperlink.

    • 4

Enter a web address, file destination, email address or page number in the appropriate box in the Hyperlinks panel. This sets the destination you want the link to lead to.

    • 5

Set the appearance of your link. Choose whether the frame will be highlighted, what color to highlight, and the width and style of the frame's rectangle. If you choose "Invisible Rectangle" there won't be any formatting.

    • 6

Click the "Shared Destination" option in the panel if you want to save the destination. The link is stored and displayed in the Hyperlinks panel so you can use it again later.
