How to Troubleshoot a GE Hydrowave

The GE Hydrowave system is used in some of the company's washing machines to slow down the water that enters the washing machine while prolonging the cycle. The wash system is designed to be gentler on clothes, resulting in fewer snags, tears and wear on items, and helps clean clothes more thoroughly. Instructions

    • 1

Use only HE (high efficiency) detergent with the GE Hydrowave washing machine if there are too many soap suds during use, because the appliance is designed for use with HE detergent for fewer suds and less water.

    • 2

Fully turn on the hot and cold water faucets connected to the washing machine if the temperature entering the washer does not seem correct. Most water valves must be turned counterclockwise all the way to be fully open and for water to flow openly to the washer. Keep in mind that the Hydrowave machine is meant to use cooler water for increased energy efficiency.

    • 3

Remove the water hoses from the rear of the washing machine, and use a soft brush to clean out the screens if there is limited water or no water entering the washing machine. Reconnect the hoses, and be careful to not bend or trap the hoses against or under the washer.

    • 4

Reset the wash cycle if the water empties out of the washing machine before the cycle is finished, and refrain from opening the lid during the wash cycle.

    • 5

Lower the drain outlet so that it is 6 feet or less from the floor if the water won't drain from the tub, and make sure the hose is not trapped or bent in any way.

    • 6

Close any zippers, hooks or other metal items on clothes before washing if there is still excessive wear or snags, rips or tears after washing with the Hydrowave system.

    • 7

Adjust the load size selector to match the load size if items are not thoroughly cleaned or seem to be yellowed after washing. Use a warmer water cycle, and make sure that the detergent dispenser is filled with HE detergent.
