Sophia Lamp Directions

Sophia fragrance lamps perfume your home for several hours without the worry of an open flame. A cotton wick and heated stone warms the scented oil inside the lamp and disperses it throughout your room. Sophia fragrance lamps are intended for use only with catalytic lamp oil, and not with any other fuel or liquid. Using these lamps is simple, but the hot oil and stone can cause serious burns if handled carelessly. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place your lamp on a flat surface with no combustible materials above or around it. Slide a saucer or a metal plate beneath the lamp to prevent damage to your furniture from spills and heat.

    • 2

Pour the desired amount of oil, filling to no more than half full, using a funnel. If you overfill, the lamp may not function properly.

    • 3

Insert the cotton end of the wick into the lamp so the stone at the other end rests on the lamp's neck.

    • 4

Cover the wick with the snuff or stopper cap and leave the wick to absorb the oil for about 15 minutes.

    • 5

Remove the cap and light the stone with a lighter so you have a small flame.

    • 6

Allow the stone to heat for about two to three minutes. The flame may be as high as four to six inches, but should reduce to around two inches or extinguish itself. Do not leave the lamp unattended while the stone is lit.

    • 7

Blow out the flame and place the protective vent cap over the heated stone. The vent cap should always be in place when the stone is hot.

    • 8

Stop the fragrance lamp's perfuming by removing the vent cap and covering the stone with the snuff cap.

    • 9

Replace the protective vent cap until the stone has fully cooled.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Sophia lamp will not give off fragrance while the flame is burning.

  • Residue from the oil may build on the glass and metal pieces. Clean these with a mild detergent. Do not clean the wick or the stone.

  • Sophia catalytic oils perfume at a rate of about one ounce per hour. Use only as much oil as you need to control how long scent will be released. If there is unused fragrance oil in the lamp when you are finished, return it to the container.

  • Once each week, reduce the fluid in your lamp to an ounce or less and then wet the stone. Light it for about three minutes and then blow out the flame and let it perfume the room until the oil in the lamp is gone and the stone is completely dry. This cleans the stone of residual oils.

  • Replace your stone and wick every three to six months, depending on frequency of use.

  • If your lamp begins to smoke while in use, you may have overfilled it. Reduce the amount of oil and the smoke should go away.

  • Do not put the protective vent or the snuff cap over an open flame.

  • Avoid leaving the lamp unlit without the cap on the stone. This prevents the stone from becoming over-wicked, which makes it hard to light.

  • Never touch the stone or the caps when the lamp is in use or has been in use recently to avoid burns.
